Get across   被理解; 把…讲清楚

= to communicate.   沟通

= to make someone understand something.    使某人理解

• Your meaning didn't really get across.   没有人真正理解你的意思。

• He's not very good at getting his idea across.   他不擅长把自己的观点讲清楚。

Get around   (消息)传开/避开

1. = to become known. To spread or to circulate. If news or information gets around, people tell other people, so that soon many people know about it.

1. =如果消息传开,一个人告诉另一个人,很快很多人就都知道了。

• The news of his arrest got around quickly.   他被逮捕的消息很快传开了。

• News soon got around that Matthew was back in town.   Matthew回到镇上的消息很快就传开了。

2. = to find a way of avoiding a difficult or unpleasant situation, so that you don't have to deal with it.

• There is no way of getting around it - you are going to have to tell her the truth.

Get at   够得着/意指

1. = to reach, to access to something.

• The cupboard is too high for me to get at.   黑板太高,我够不着。

• The report is locked in the cabinet and I can't get at them.   报告锁在了橱子里,我拿不到。

2. = to suggest something indirectly, to imply. (used only in the continuous tense)

• What exactly are you getting at? (=trying to say, suggest)   你想说什么?

Get down to   着手处理

1. = to reach the point of dealing with something.   处理某事

2. = to begin to work on something seriously. To give serious attention to something.   开始着手处理某件严重的事情

3. = to finally start doing something, after you have been avoiding it or after something has prevented you from doing it.

在拒绝或受阻后开始做某事

• Now, let's get down to business   现在我们开始工作吧。

• It's time I got down to some serious work.   我们要处理一些棘手的工作了。

• Once it is Summer, we will get down to painting the house.   到了夏天我们就粉刷房子。

Get out of   逃避

1. = to avoid something   避开某事

• He always tells his parents he has homework to get out of doing the dishes.

他总是告诉父母有作业要做,这样就不用洗碗了。

• She was lucky to get out of that dangerous situation.   她很幸运的避开了危险的状况。

2. = to physically remove yourself from somewhere or something   远离

•  I got out of bed as soon as my alarm went off.   闹钟一响我就下床了。

• The police officer told me to get out of the car.   警察让我下车。

Can't get over   惊讶

1. = to be amazed or surprised by something.
