(continued)
In many countries deregulation has helped to drive the process along.(1st) But, behind the scenes, a series of technological innovations known broadly as containerisation and inter-modal transportation has led to swift productivity improvements in cargo-handling.(TS) Forty years ago, the process of exporting of exporting or importing involved a great many stages of handling, which risked portions of the shipment being damaged or stolen along the way. The invention of the container crane made it possible to load and unload containers without capsizing the ship and the adoption of standard container sizes allowed almost any box to be transported on any ship. By 1967, dual-purpose ships, carrying loose cargo in the hold* and containers on the deck, were giving way to all-container vessels that moved thousands of boxes at a time.
Yet opinion polls suggest that many people nurture the belief that environmental standards are declining and four factors seem to cause this disjunction between perception and reality.
One is the … .
Secondly, environmental groups need to be noticed by the mass media. They also need to keep the money rolling in. Understandably, perhaps they sometimes overstate their arguments. In 1997, for example, the World Wild Fund for Nature issued a press release entitled: ‘Two thirds of the world’s forest lost forever.’ The truth turns out to be nearer 20%.(剑5 Test 1)
In the late 1940s the World Health Organisation challenged this physically and medically oriented view of health. They stated that ‘health is a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being and is not merely the absence of disease’ (WHO, 1046). Health and the person were seen more holistically (mind/body/spirit) and not just in physical terms (TS).
