The Dec. 15 incident began when library staff noticed 23-year-old Yuxiang Chen nodding off. He had been studying at the 18th Avenue library until around 3 a.m. He was apparently asked to leave and invited to return later. When he did, he was confronted by police.
"He was told he was trespassing and things escalated very quickly from there," defense attorney Alex Hastie said. "Very unfortunate."
Investigators said Chen was asked to show his student ID when he came back but he refused. After exchanging words with security, the senior math major allegedly attempted to bite the staff members.
"I think that the language barrier is one of the main barriers, but they slammed him to the ground and he's then pepper sprayed twice in the face," Hastie said.
Medics evaluated Chen before officers put him behind bars. The student was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest. OSU police declined to talk about the case on camera, but said they followed correct protocol in controlling a tough case.
"We would simply like the case to be dismissed and he be allowed to continue with his studies," Hastie said. "He wants to continue in grad school. He loves the United States and wants to stay here."
The Chinese consulate in San Francisco was notified following the exchange student's arrest. Chen posted bail and returned to class. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for Tuesday.

辩护律师赫斯蒂称，“我觉得语言障碍是最主要的问题，但校警做出的反应过于粗暴，他把陈反扣在地上，并且先后两次用辣椒水喷陈的脸。”
医护人员给陈进行了体检，然后他被关了起来。陈被指控非法入侵和拒捕。俄亥俄州立大学的校警目前拒绝接受媒体采访，但表示一切都按流程办事。
“我们只希望这个案子能销案，该学生能够继续完成学业，”赫斯蒂称，“他希望继续完成学业。他热爱美国，想继续留在这里。”
在该生被捕后，中国旧金山领事馆已经接到通知。陈交了保释金后已回到课堂。1月14日这起袭警案件进行了预审听证。目前还没有确切信息传出，希望陈宇翔同学能够顺利返回校园。
