Unfortunately, sometimes you’re stuck with a class because it’s a requirement for your major. If you find out you have to take it, continue consider the following points to help make a final decision. If the class you want to drop is not a requirement for your major, drop it! If your GPA is important to you for reasons like grad school, think about whether or not getting a lower grade in this class will hurt you more than help in the long run.

College isn’t all about school. You’ll probably get involved in student groups, volunteering, or a job. If you know this class will take more time out of your day to read/study than you can give, then it might not be worth keeping this semester/quarter. College is a balancing act that will take time to master, and only you can know what works best for you.
大学并不仅仅是学习。你可能会参加学生社团、去当志愿者、也或者找到份工作。如果你知道这门课程所需要的阅读或专研会占据你大量的时间，但是你现今却没有这份时间，那么也许这门课在这学期或季度就不值得继续保留了。大学是门平衡的艺术，这需要时间去掌握，而只有你知道什么是对于你来说最好的。

Can you take the class next semester/quarter? Will you be able to get the class in the future? Let’s say your schedule isn’t allowing enough time for English 123, and you know they offer it every term. Maybe you can adjust your academic/extracurricular schedule for Spring Semester to allow you to put more time into that class. That way, you’re sure you can work harder and get a better grade than if you had kept it this term.

This is difficult to know if you’re trying to decide to drop at the beginning of the term. Sometimes you might be thinking you’re doing great in a class until you get your first paper back or the midterm. Let’s be real… Borderline D- is taking a risk (You should also check the minimum passing grade because it differs between schools). Only you know whether or not you can bring your grade up by the end. If you know you can’t, and you can afford it, it’s time to say bye-bye to that class.
学期伊始的时候是很难决定是否要退掉某门课程的。又是你可能觉得你在这门课上学得不错，知道第一次测验或是期中考试的时候你才发觉并非如此。我们现实点吧……拿到底线D-就是在冒险（你应该也去查查看这门课的最低通过分数，因为不同的学校可能要求不尽相同。）只有你自己清楚你是否会在期末的时候突飞猛进。如果你知道那是不可能的，你心里能够承担得起，那么就是和这门课程说拜拜的时候了。
I just want to say that if you find yourself in a difficult class, it doesn’t mean you should automatically drop it. College is supposed to be more challenging than high school! But of course, only you know how much you can handle. If it gets to be too much, ask for advice from a trusted professor or counselor on campus. They’re there to help. Really.
我只是想说，如果你发觉某门课程对你来说很难，并不意味着你就应该退课。大学课程本来就该比高中更难！但是，当然，只有你自己知道你能应对多少。如果实在搞不清楚状况，问问看学校里你所信任的教授或辅导老师的建议。他们总是很乐于助人。真的。
