Here are some of the many unwritten rules that every college student should know.

SOCK ON THE DOORKNOB/DOORSOCK

Still not sure what this means? Hm… well, how to phrase this? As might find out, some people in college engage in the “no pants dance”. During this, they place a sock on the door handle as courtesy to inform roommates that: “Hey, might not want to come in if you don’t want to be scarred for the rest of your life.” But really, does anyone still do this? Now that we have technology, it’s more common to just shoot your roommates a text that you “need the room for a while”. Some roommates have code words/phrases that serve as warnings to stay clear. You know, like:

Your roommate: Tomato. ;)

You: OoOoOo Bow chicka wow wow! … You have 1 hour.

Note: The above example was completely made up, and was not taken from experience. Thank you.

DRINKS + PARTIES

Sorry people. I don’t want to sound like your mom, but this really is important. Beware of the smoking hot senior who hands you a drink while you’re at a party. As you stare longingly into his/her eyes, a couple of sips from that drink could send you on your own little Hangover movie adventure the rest of the night. In all seriousness, it’s fine to have a good time at a party. But just be aware. You don’t want to wake up the next morning with regrets and 500 likes on that one photo of you.. wait, is that you…? are you…? er, well let’s not talk about that.[/en]

[en]THE LAUNDRY RULE

This is arguably the most important rule in this blog post. If you walk into the laundry room and find one of the washers/dryers just finish. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT IMMEDIATELY TAKE OUT SOMEONE ELSE’S LAUNDRY. There’s this unspoken rule that you have to wait at least 5 or 10 minutes before you have “permission” to move his/her laundry if the person doesn’t come back to move it. I’m not kidding when I say that people will be pissed if you touch it before that time frame.

Note: I am talking from experience here this time. Whoever moved my laundry 1 minute after it finished back in March, I’m still coming for you!!!

INSTANT RAMEN AS A LIFESTYLE CHOICE

This isn’t going to happen to everybody, but I just want to let you know that if it does, the first step is acceptance. Instant Ramen is nothing to be ashamed of these next couple of years. Sometimes, you just can’t afford anything better.
Just know your family will still love you. That is all.

COLLEGE GOES BY WAY TOO FAST

Before you know it, your first year of college will be all over. (Promise I’m not trying to make you depressed!) This is just a tip for you to really enjoy all of it. The good times, the bad, your classes, and the people you meet. Some people say college is some of the best years of your life. And so far, I’d like to agree with them.

Have a school year that rocks your socks. (Take that however you like.)
