If you’re struggling with classes – whether it’s memorizing the product rule for Calculus or maybe you’re struggling with writing a paper on Thomas Pynchon’s The Crying of Lot 49 for your English Literature class – don’t worry, there’s an abundance of tutoring available on college campuses. And you shouldn’t worry about feeling shame when looking for help, it’s okay, there are a lot of students that seek tutoring every semester, if anything, you’d feel stupider if you didn’t use the resource. Keep a look out for a tutoring center or a math and writing center, or something equivalent.

Look out for Job/Bulletin Boards

Walking down the hallways of the Humanities building, or the Science building, or even the library, you might see colorful green, orange, white papers posted onto a cork board. Sometimes these boards can have internship or employment opportunities posted on them, or the papers might be offering tutoring services, or a student looking to buy a textbook, or even a lost puppy flyer. Keep an eye out for these boards on campus, they can be a good resource, especially if you just so happen to want a new kitten.

Your professors aren’t just available during class, you can catch them during their office hours too and it is essential that you do so if you want to get help in their class, or if you want to expand your network. Professors want to help their students and most students rarely make the time to visit them outside of class.

If you’re like me and live an hour away from campus, commuting eats up most of your time and money. Some colleges have free shuttle or bus service that helps students get to campus. Of course this is independent of each campus so be sure to check.

This has to be one of the top resources freshman should look into. Getting yourself a counselor that can guide you through the years is crucial for your success in college. There’s nothing worse than getting to senior year and discovering you didn’t complete a required course or that a class you took didn’t count towards your degree program. Counselors, like professors are there to help you, be sure to take advantage of it.
