1. You do not need to be loved, not at the cost of yourself. The single relationship that is truly central and crucial in a life is the relationship to see the self. 【词语点睛】at the cost of, “以……为代价”，“牺牲……”。如： There is no sense developing industry at the cost of the environment. （以环境为代价换取工业发展是毫无道理的。）
the single relationship = the only relationship；口语写作时可以用的单词替换哦！ 另外还要注意这里的relationship强调的是“爱情关系”，所以理解时最好用“感情”替换“关系”。

【词语点睛】a companion that was so companionable：companionable companion，同根词的妙用。英语中有许多单词都有相近形态，表示的意义也大致相关。写作时可以使用一二，增加趣味性。
solitude是高级形式的loneliness，出现在作文里也是提分点！
3. When we are unable to find tranquility within ourselves, it is useless to seek it elsewhere. (Francois de la Rochefoucauld)

【词语点睛】tranquility，宁静、平静；英文解释是“an untroubled state; free from disturbances”不受外界干扰，无忧无虑，宁静祥和的状态。是比quiet更内在、更深层的“安静”。
【亮点解析】注意句型“When sb. is unable to do A, it is useless to do B.”；“当某人无法完成A时，做B也没有用。”意为A事情是B事情的前提，即A比B更重要。口语和写作中都可以用到这个句型，如： When you are not able to use the basic words, it is useless to try to make a dialogue. （当你还没学会使用基本词语时，尝试进行对话只是白费力。）
4. Sometimes you have to stand alone to prove that you can still stand.
有时你不得不以单身出现，来证明一个人也能活得很好。
【亮点解析】stand alone：独自站着；stand：站立，也有“直立蓬勃生长”的含义，如：Some big trees at the top of the hill stand into the sky. （山顶上有几棵参天的大树。） 这两个本是描述动作的客观表达，但放在句子中，却被赋予很鲜明的情感色彩。stand alone营造出了被众人隔离的孤独感，可是这又怎样？So what?! 没有依靠，正好可以证明一个人同样可以活得精彩！
5. Waiting for someone else to make you happy is the best way to be sad.
等待着其他人哄你开心，是让自己伤心的最好方法。
【亮点解析】这句话的妙处是将happy和sad放在一起形成的对比。而V-ing + is the (best/worst) way to do sth. 也是写作的常见用法，“做某事是达到……的（最佳/最坏）方法”，如： Planning for the worst when everything goes on well is the best way to survive in this industry. （在一切顺利时仍为最坏情况做打算，是在这个行业中生存的最佳方式。）
